Information Service.

This project has been fully operational from 3rd January 2000 and provides fully comprehensive information services to disabled people and disabled visitors in Greenwich. The service also provides Social Services, the voluntary sector and Health Authority with information on Independent Living issues. Information offered is in a variety of accessible formats.

In addition to providing information, the project is creating opportunities for 15 disabled people to work in the project as volunteers each year. Disabled people can offer to volunteer for a few hours to one or two days a week. In return they receive training, supervision and opportunities to gain real work experience, develop new skills and a chance to obtain NVQ qualifications.

The Information Service manages the GAD drop-in, which alongside Welfare Rights offers advice on a Monday between 11am and 3pm and a Thursday 2pm to 5:45pm on a drop-in basis.

The future plans for the Information Service include:

  • An e-mail service.
  • Organising information sessions for Community Groups.
  • Cyber-café for disabled people wishing to use the internet.
  • Outreach sessions with schools and colleges.
  • Young disabled people's newsletter.
  • Disabled Women's group.
